Dævara in Glyph

Teller of Fate

Intermezzo: The Templar War

* * *

The tragedy that was the freeing of the White God manifested first in the Silver Temple. The Silver Magi, having unleashed the beast, became the high priests of ITs church, commanding worship and sacrifice.

The sacrifice was not of blood. The White God’s appetite was for consciousness. At first, IT required only a few thousand souls at a time. But as the centuries passed, ITs appetite grew.

In the one hundred and forty thousand years the White God plagued the Shining Empire, IT devoured whole worlds and extinguished unnumbered intelligent species. The efforts of the Ebon and Golden Temple to capture and imprison the White God are known, but less well-known is the role played by a small number of Silver Templars.

Though not enamoured of the cult of the White God and formally neutral, some began slowly to steal from the White God the sustenance IT craved. More and more, they siphoned off the raw conscious energy and stored it against the day when it could be used to help repair the damage done.

This was not discovered until after the Templars were gone and the White God imprisoned, when the Hermetists found a Portal that led to Nonspace. After taking appropriate precautions, a handful went through. They found themselves standing on a spire of crystalline stone. What it connected to frightened them so much that they built a barrier to protect the Spire and prevent the Multiverse’s access to it.

In time others came, and a community sprang up on this barrier.

Thus was born the City Glyph.
