Trapped in NOTHING

Drago remembered once when long ago the blackness of the Void surrounded him. These weren’t the memories of his composite self, but of that part of him that had lived in the Sea.

There was a quintessence required for the Manifestation that had Poseidon initiated. ‘Spirit’ was a concept that had had many, many definitions throughout history. Most of them were overly sentimental and naïve. Only a few, the brave or the reckless, had plumed the depths where the source dwelled in its essence. In its refined state, Spirit was a horrifying thing, as inimical to life as the most virulent poison. Some called it ‘God,’ in hopes that it would be kind and loving. Some called it the Devil, having experienced just a piece of it. To those who knew, it was both—and neither. This was the reason that Reality would never be fully understood.

Drago, the Watr Man, the composite soul, was entangled in its coils. The soul that had been pulled from the Silvergrey Sea was one of the Great Souls. Through many incarnations, it had achieved the strength and subtlety of will that enabled its new self to live in this pureness of power without fear.

Abram was maybe strong enough to survive this. Drago had to hope so; there was nothing to be done if he wasn’t.

Much that had been hidden from Drago became clear. Though it was he who had chosen Tranker to play a pivotal role in his plan, Drago feared for the P.I. more than for the Hermetist, now.

There was no space or time. Those were manifestations of Spirit. In its pure form, it was NOTHING. Drago knew the next time he entered Reality it would be when the plans of the Sea God were ready to begin again.

He had one advantage: no one had yet realized the change that had come because of the rite the elf-mage Dævara had helped him perform. He began thinking of how to turn his current predicament to his advantage in thwarting Poseidon’s plan.
