It’s been a thousand centuries in Universal Time since the end of the Shining Empire. The Thirty Aions of the Pleroma are now the million nations of the Pax Hermetica. Before the end of the Empire, peace was only an idea; but war is now the exception, not the rule.
Something has changed. Death stalks worlds and stars. In every Aion, in random universes, suns are going dark, whole constellations, even galaxies are dying, disappearing. It could be a deadly plague, a change in the physics of stellar Life, the hand of a vengeful god, or the malice of a new race.
